Playoffs Vikings Begin Run in the GHSA Playoffs!

After tremendous regular seasons by both the girls and boys Viking’s basketball teams, they prepare for the GHSA State Playoffs.  Due to the strong seasons by both teams, they received byes for the first round of the playoffs. The second round of playoffs will begin this Thursday, February 23, 2017. Both teams will host the second round at the Treutlen County High School Gym.  The Lady Vikings will kick off the action at 5:00 pm vs. Macon County Lady Bulldogs. After the completion of the lady’s game, the boys will get into action against the Lincoln County Devils at around 6:30 pm. The cost of admission is $10.00. GO VIKINGS!!!

Viking Basketball Region Basketball Tournament Time!

After an outstanding regular season by both the the Lady Vikings and Vikings, the Treutlen County Girls and Boys Basketball teams will begin the region 3A tournament this week. The boys will kick off their bid for the title on Wednesday at 5:30pm, while the ladies will begin play on Thursday at 4:00pm. All games will take place at McIntosh County Academy. Surveys Your Opinion Matters

A growing body of research indicates that schools with positive school climate ratings have better test scores and higher graduation rates.  School climate refers to the quality and character of school life.  The first step to improving school climate is to measure and analyze it with a school climate survey instrument.  We would like for every Parent and Staff member to complete the 2017 Georgia School Health Climate Survey. Parents Night TMHS Parents' Night

Treutlen Middle/High School will be conducting Parents' Night on Thursday, January 5th from 5:00-7:00pm.  Please come out and meet with staff to obtain updates on your child's academic progress and also learn more about school curriculum and capstone requirements.  Parents can also pick up report cards.  To show appreciation to parents, dinner will be served.

Holiday Christmas Holiday Break

The Treutlen County School System will be closed for the Christmas break starting at the end of the day on Friday, December 16, 2016. The school will reopen on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 for faculty and staff only. Students will return on January 4th, 2017. We hope everyone has a great holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone back in January.

JR. Beta T.M.S. Junior BETA Attends State Convention

On November 17-18, 2016 the T.M.S. Junior BETA Club attended the Georgia State Junior BETA Convention at the Macon Centreplex.  While at convention, members had an opportunity to meet, mingle, and compete with other members from across the state of Georgia in various competitions including academic, technology, photography, agriculture, robotic, and art.  This year T.M.S. Jr. BETA members Collin Beall and Connor Krosting placed second out of over 50 schools in the recyclable art competition with their artwork “Swordfish.”  In addition to the second place ribbon, the boys received an invitation to compete during the summer at National Convention located at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida.  Congratulations to Collin and Connor, as well as congratulations to all T.M.S. Jr. BETA members who represented Treutlen well.

Ana Daughtry Treutlen County Teacher of the Year!!!!

The Treutlen County Teacher of the Year was announced on Tuesday, November 15th. This year’s choice was Mrs. Ana Daughtry.  This is Ana’s 11th year of teaching. She began her teaching career as a 5th teacher. She then went on to teach early intervention mathematics and currently works in the Media Center as the county Media Specialist.

There were 4 teachers who were nominated from the county. The choices were (K-2nd Cicely Lee) (3rd-5th Tonya Love) (Middle School - Ana Daughtry) and (High School - Miriam Grimes). Each of these ladies completed a Georgia Teacher of the Year application which was scored by an outside committee to determine the winner for the county. Each of these ladies is a fantastic teacher and we are fortunate to have each one. Congratulations to all of you!

2016 Bookfair Treutlen Middle/High Book Fair in Here!!!!

The 2016 Fall Scholastic Book fair is here. It is that time of year again when students, parents and staff have the opportunity to purchase books from the book fair. The school gets a portion of all sales.  All money, form the sale, is used to purchase new books for the Middle/High Media center. Please come out and help support the Media Center by making purchases.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Golden Radish Treutlen County Schools Receives Golden Radish Award

Georgia’s Departments of Agriculture, Public Health, Education and Georgia Organics came together under the prestigious Gold Dome for the annual Golden Radish Awards to celebrate incredible gains made in the farm to school movement. 53 school districts—nearly one-third of all public school districts in Georgia with a  reach of over 1 million students—are now participating in farm to school programs and recognized through the Golden Radish Awards. 

Treutlen County Schools was recognized with the Golden Radish Award at the Silver level for their accomplishments during the 2015-2016 school year, which include:

Locally grown items were featured on the school menu 22 times, including tomatoes and cucumbers from school gardens.

Students participated in six hands-on cooking and food activities primarily using food grown in the school garden. Students picked blueberries, kale, carrots, and tomatoes for smoothies, salads, and raw tastings. 

Teachers integrated farm to school into curriculum lessons 20 times. Kindergarten and first grade used the garden for various science and math lessons while fourth graders learned about composting.

The Golden Radish Award publicly recognizes school districts for all aspects of farm to school, from local food procurement to hosting taste tests to gardening with students, and is awarded at Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorary Levels.  Districts were evaluated on their work in ten different activities of farm to school.

Fall TES PTO Fall Festival

The TES PTO will sponsor a Fall Festival on Thursday, October 13.  The festival will take place at Iva Park in Soperton.  The festival will be open from 5:30-7:30. Tickets are $0.50 each or a wristband is $10.00 for unlimited access to games/activities. Food and snacks will be available and are not included in ticket/wristband price. Please come out and support the PTO and have some FUN!

School Flu Clinic Coming Soon!

All students in the Treutlen County School System can take advantage of flu shots offered at the school. The Health Department will be at the school on October 12th for students to take the shots. This season, only the shots will be available, there will be no nasal dosages. Please be on the lookout for paperwork being sent home with your child.

All Elementary school parents are invited to attend the TES Parent Night on Monday, October 3rd at 5:00. The event will take place from 5:00 until 6:30. All parents are encouraged to come out to speak to their childs' teacher.  We look forward to seeing you.

TES Fall Book Fair

The annual TES Fall Book Fair will take place September 30th—October 6th.   The Book Fair will be open from 7:45-3:15 each day.  On October 6th it will close at 1:00 pm.  Parents may shop with students on Monday, October 3rd from 5:00-6:30 during TES Parent Night.  Please plan on attending Parent Night and supporting The Media Center Book Fair.

Okefenokee Swamp - Altamaha River - Brasstown Bald

Students have been busy researching landforms in Mrs. Martin's 5th grade class. Mrs. Daughtry, Media Specialist, has been helping students learn how to use the Chromebooks and Google Slides to create presentations. Each student selects a landform and then does research to learn more.  After the research, they used Google Slides to create a presentation on that landform. Students will present their presentation to the other students in the class when completed.

Middle School Homecoming Football

On Thursday September 22, 2016 the Treutlen Middle School football team will host Montgomery County for the 2016 Homecoming game.  Homecoming representatives will be presented immediately following the game.  Representatives are chosen by their peers based on endearing qualities and good personalities.  The Homecoming King and Queen are selected from the eighth grade representatives and will be crowned by the 2016 Junior Beta Club officers.  by: Elizabeth Keene

School Nutrition Program is Silver Award Winner!!!!

The HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC) is a voluntary certification initiative recognizing those schools enrolled in Team Nutrition.  Those schools have created healthier school environments through promotion of nutrition and physical activity.  In 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama introduced Let’s Move!, incorporating HUSSC into her campaign to raise a healthier generation of kids. There are different HUSSC award levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold Award of Distinction.

To date, HUSSC awards have been given to schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. As of August 31, 2016, there are 4,661 schools certified (3,234 Bronze, 908 Silver, 330 Gold, and 189 Gold Award of Distinction).

Annual Title I Meeting for Treutlen County Schools

Parents of students who attend Treutlen Elementary School and Treutlen Middle/High School are invited to attend the Annual Title I Meeting.  The meeting will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. in the Treutlen County K-12 School Cafeteria. Attendants will learn about Title I and how parents can become involved in their child’s education.

Congratulations to the Vikings football team. They defeated Portal this past Friday night. Their next opponent is Bleckley County on September 2. This will be an away game, so please make the trip if possible. If not, you can listen to the Vikings on 101.7 FM Sweet Onion Country.

Friday Nights are Back!!!!

After much hard work in practice and a couple of weeks of scrimmaging, the Treutlen County Vikings will kick-off the new season.  The Vikings will play Georgia Military College Friday, August 19 at Bobby Driggers Stadium. Come out and support the Vikings!!!

The 4th grade TES students have been busy this week planting Broccoli and Spinach for school gardens.  These items will be gathered later in the year. After gathering, the school nutrition program will prepare these items for the students to eat during lunch.

Fruits and Vegetables for Students

Treutlen County Elementary School has received the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant for the 2016-17 school year. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools during the school day. The goal of the FFVP is to improve children’s overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. The FFVP will help schools create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices; expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience; and increasing children’s fruit and vegetable consumption.

The students will receive a fruit or vegetable snack 3 days a week and will be educated on what they are eating. Some of the fruit and vegetables slated to try are kiwi, mango, dinosaur egg pluots, dragon carrots, star fruit, dragon fruit, tri-colored cauliflower, jicama, asparagus, blood oranges, kale, passion fruit and a variety of apples.

Blueberries for the Picking

The TES NAC (Nutrition Advisory Council) is a group of students that met monthly throughout the year to help improve and encourage student health. The students made posters, taste tested foods, and assisted in the school gardens. The group took a field trip to the Spivey Farm and Berry farm, hosted by Stacy Spivey, to see local produce being grown in Treutlen County. The group picked blueberries, saw how they are grown organically, learned about fruit production and harvest. After the picking, they enjoyed smoothies made by Eva Spivey. The TES NAC is led by Mrs.Red Barrett, School Nutrition Director.

2016 Kindergarten Graduation

The Treutlen Elementary School celebrated kindergarten graduation on Tuesday May 17. The activities were conducted in the elementary school gym. There were songs, dancing and a great deal of laughter. We would like to thank all those who came out and helped us celebrate all that our little ones have leaned this year.

2016 State Champions

On Saturday, May 14th, the Treutlen County High School Viking Baseball team defeated the Trion Bulldogs to capture the State Class “A” Title. It was an electric atmosphere as over 2000 fans showed up to cheer on the Vikings.  In the first game, the Vikings won 3-0.  In the second game the Vikings won 6-2. This was the Vikings first baseball state championship in school history. Congratulations to all the players and coaches.
