Important Update - Students and Parents news

System and school administrators met to plan for modifying the grading process for the 2019-2020 school year.  Parent portal will be disabled for a brief time beginning Friday, April 24, 2020, as the calculations must be completed manually and reloaded into the parent portal.  Fourth nine-week grades will be the average of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd nine weeks’ grades.  Beginning next week, teachers will reach out to parents/students who are in jeopardy of failing with options for improving the grade from failing to passing.  Distance learning work will be used only to improve a student’s overall average.  May 13th will be the last day to receive all distance learning work for the 2019-2020 school year.  Additional details will be available once final grade calculations and parent conversations with all students in jeopardy of failing has been completed.

The attendance procedures and consequences for lack of attendance will not be in effect for the 2019-2020 school year.

Prom has been canceled as the school system cannot meet the expected social distancing requirements as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The school system wishes to honor our 2020 graduates with a face-to-face graduation ceremony. At this time, we are optimistically hopeful of maintaining our original ceremony date by adding social distancing requirements.  However, the decision to have a face-to-face ceremony is still too soon to decide.  We will keep everyone up to date as details become available.

Treutlen County Receives Transportation Award safety

Pupil Transportation Green Ribbon Safety Award in Division 1

The 2019 Georgia Department of Education, Pupil Transportation Safety Award will be awarded to schools across Georgia based on system size by FTE. The state systems were divided into 8 divisions by size. There is a winner and runner-up in each division. A system will not be selected two years in a row, but a winning system would be eligible one year after a win.

The selection criteria is based on information from the systems annual Superintendents Report. Accuracy, timeliness and completeness of all components of this report shall be taken into consideration by the committee selecting the Safety Award winners each year.

The criteria will be based mainly on what each system is doing to promote a safe and vibrant pupil transportation system. Systems where Best Practices are evident and systems that go above and beyond minimum expectations will be selected. Efficiency in routing, finances and leadership will also factor in as the committee views the guiding safety principles for transporting children first.

Treutlen County Transportation was awarded the Green Ribbon School Bus Safety Award in Division 1. The four criteria areas were Safety, Reporting, Efficiency and Leadership.

Annually, bus drivers attend safety training mandated by the Georgia Department of Education. Additionally, students in Grades Pre-K through 5th grade are instructed on bus safety and evacuations during the first week of school. The district has also implemented PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Expectations) Expectations to remind students to be READY TO RIDE. Ready to Ride means being seated at all times, whispering to the person seated with you and keeping hands to yourself.

Virtual Option for Learning at Home Virtual

For those parents who would prefer not to have their child return to the physical school building, there will be an online option available for pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade students. This will be a commitment for students and parents.

This virtual option will not look like the distance learning that took place in the spring. In that situation, we were near the end of the year with most of the standards having been taught. We were in a crisis situation where we only had a one-day notice. We had a “hold harmless” grading procedure and a reduced workload, so that students would not suffer because of things beyond their control

The virtual learning option will be a full schedule with all classes each day. The rigor will match that of the classroom. Work will be assigned and graded just like in-person school.

Parents will be asked to review and sign a separate commitment for online instruction by July 23rd. This will allow us to assign students to classes. Please click the links below to see the Guidelines and complete the Online Learning Application.

Online Learning Application deadline has been extended until Monday, July 27 at 8:30 am.

However, if you are using a personal computer, they must also type in @treutlen.k12.ga.us
